Why Workforce Is Aerospace’s New Year’s Hangover
An Aviation Week/Siemens survey uncovers some disturbing trends as big labor negotiations loom. Aviation Week editors are joined by special guest Todd Tuthill, vice president of aerospace and defense at Siemens Digital Industries Software.
Aerospace & Defense’s Digital Transformation Opportunity
Three key issues Aerospace and Defense companies will continue to face in 2025 are cost, workforce, and time to market. Join Matthew Fulco and I as we discuss these issues on the Aviation Week Check 6 podcast.
We cover several topics including how cost impacted some major defense programs in 2024, manned vs unmanned fighter aircraft, supply chain issues, sustainability and blended wing bodies, and how AI is being used to develop aircraft.
Overcoming Supply Chain Challenges
Late deliveries and lost revenue due to supply chain issues remain far too common in the A&D industry. Practices such as diversifying suppliers and buying safety stock can help, but isn’t there a better way? This podcast will examine the results of a Siemens supply chain survey conducted by Aviation Week to explain current trends and consider how companies can embrace digital transformation and invest in market intelligence to proactively manage their supply chain.

How AI is Redefining the Aerospace Industry
Simulation optimization. Generative design. Predictive algorithms. These AI-powered activities can “automate the mundane” and transform the way engineers work, for the better.
I was a guest on the Battery podcast. We did two episodes on electric aviation.
Taking Batteries from the Lab to the Sky in the Aerospace Industry
In this first part of the conversation, you will learn about the challenges air transportation brings to the battery ecosystem as well as some of the innovative products businesses are working on to bring about a revolution in transport. And we’ll also cover some of the solutions businesses are deploying to make this future a reality.
Episode two:
Landing a Successful Electric Aircraft Program
In part two we are covering some of the more specific challenges battery electric aircraft bring to design and manufacturing, from safety measures to product validation. We’ll go beyond battery applications for Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (EVTOL) craft as small delivery vehicles such as those from Zipline.
I was a guest on the AI spectrum podcast.
Understanding the intersection of AI and simulation
People often ask me how I think AI will change the way aerospace engineering will be done in the future. AI will enhance all aspects of digital transformation for product development and manufacturing. It will also change how engineers do their jobs.
Three plus decades ago when I graduated from engineering school, a lot of engineers focused on the “how” with respect to design, and a smaller subset focused on the “why”. In the future, a whole lot of the how will be handled by AI. Future aerospace engineers will need to focus more on the why and less on the how.
